Collins’ 30-point, 19-rebound effort lifts Knox Central past Pineville, 50-46, in 51st District title game 

Knox Central sophomore Halle Collins continued her impressive season in Thursday’s 51st District title game against Pineville.

She turned in her 28th double-double of the season while leading the Lady Panther with a 30-point, 19-rebound effort during Knox Central’s 50-46 win.

The game was close throughout with the Lady Panthers holding a slim 17-14 lead at halftime before seeing their advantage cut to 31-28 entering the fourth quarter.

That’s when Collins took over.

She scored 10 of Knox Central’s 19 points in the fourth quarter, allowing the Lady Panthers (23-5) pull out the four-point victory.

Hannah Melton added eight points for Knox Central while Mackenzie Hensley finished with six points. Jaylynn Fain added four points while Timberly Fredrick scored two points.

Ava Arnett led the Lady Mountain Lions (22-8) with 12 points while Rachel Howard scored 10 points. Abby Jackson hit three 3-pointers, and finished with nine points while Kamryn Biliter added eight points. Nadine Johnson finished with seven points.

The stage is now set for the 13th Region Tournament with North Laurel (49th District), Corbin (50th District), Knox Central (51st District), and Bell County (52nd District) entering as their respective district champions.
Jackson County (49th District), South Laurel (50th District), Pineville (51st District), and Harlan County (52nd District) will enter be entering the 13th Region Tournament as their respective district’s runner-ups.
The 13th Region Girls’ Tournament draw will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Corbin Arena.
