Jackson County softball won its season-opener, defeating Lee County, 7-2
Sophomore pitcher Candice Williams struck out 18 batters while allowing no earned runs.
“I was very proud of our team’s performance,” Jackson County coach Gary Tillery said. “Because of the bad weather last week, it was the first real game of the season. Also, with injuries and sickness, only twelve girls were available for the game. Candice Williams had a dominating performance with eighteen strikeouts. I was also pleased with how the girls were aggressive at the plate. We jumped out to an early lead and kept applying the pressure. Kady Fee, Candice Williams, Madison Parrett, Scarlett Peel and Emily Mays all had hits. It was a good start to the season.”
