FORT WALTON, FLA. — Corbin’s second game of its spring break trip resulted in a big win on Monday.
The Redhounds improved to 5-2 after defeating defending DI state championship from Ohio, Sylvania Northview, 8-4.
“Great win for us. Cruz Cima did a phenomenal job on the mound for us today,” Corbin coach Cody Philpot said. “He was able to attack early and keep his pitch count low enough to give himself a chance to finish it. We’re starting to see some of our bats come to life, hopefully we can keep trending in that direction.”
The Redhounds trailed, 3-2, after three innings of play before using a two-run third inning, and a three-run fifth inning to take a 6-2 advantage.
They saw their lead cut to 6-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning, but Corbin responded with two insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning to get the win.
Cam Estep delivered two hits, three RBI, and two runs scored for Corbin while Jacob Baker, and Walker Landrum each had two hits, and one RBI apiece. Bradric Helton had two hits, and two runs scored while Cameron Combs finished with a hit, and an RBI. Kade Elam finished with a run scored while Noah Cima drove in a run.
Cruz Cima picked up the win on the mound, allowing eight hits, and four earned runs in seven innings of work while also striking out six batters.
