LONDON — Eighth grader Kenzie Williams struck out a career high 15 batters while South Laurel’s one through four hitters combined to go 9-of-13 at the plate with with three RBI during the Lady Cardinals’ 10-4 win over Pineville.
Williams scattered four hits in the win while allowing three earned runs. The Lady Mountain Lions’ Rachel Howard tossed six innings, allowing 13 hits, and eight earned runs while striking out 11 batters.
“Howard is definitely a great pitcher,” South Laurel coach Carly Mink said. “We had some timely hits to produce runs and it was good to see them get hits against a great pitcher.
“The top of our lineup is hitting really well and we also had some timely hits from the bottom of the lineup but we still have some things we are looking to improve on,” she added. “Kenzie pitched well tonight. She is young and continuing to improve each day.”
South Laurel (4-2) built a 4-0 lead before Pineville (1-3) added two runs in the top of the fourth to cut their deficit to 4-2.
The Lady Cardinals responded with a run in the fifth inning while adding five more runs in the sixth inning to put the game away.
Addison Baker, and Aubree Laster had three hits, and two runs scored apiece while Emmie Rice had two hits, and two RBI. Morgan Jackson delivered two hits, one RBI, and one run scored. Madison Worley finished with a hit, a run scored, and two RBI while Skye Lawson delivered a hit, and an RBI while scoring once. Bailey Frazier also had a hit.
