Clay County picks up a pair of big wins over Jackson County behind clutch pitching, and hitting 

Clay County picked up two big wins the past two days, sweeping two games against Jackson County.

The Tigers picked up a 17-10 victory on Monday, and came back Tuesday with an impressive 19-4 win.

“The boys played great,” Clay County coach Jason Smith said. “Pitchers executed pitches, and we had two huge outings by eighth grader Luke Hillard and Talan Marcum. Our defense played really well both nights. Our boys are starting to swing the bats, so hopefully we can get some wins rolling.”

Tuesday’s Game

Clay County’s 19, Jackson County 4

The Tigers (7-6) held a 7-4 advantage before scoring 12 unanswered runs during the fourth and fifth innings to pick up a 19-4 victory.

Ethan Jackson had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, and two runs scored. Brandin Crawford hit a home run, and finished with two hits, two RBI, and three runs scored. Zach Saylor finished with two hits, three RBI, and two runs scored while Tyson Wagers collected two hits, two RBI, and scored twice. Hayden Crockett finished with a hit, two RBI, and three runs scored while Aiden Wagers, and Tate Rice each delivered a hit, and an RBI apiece.

Talan Marcum got the win, tossing five innings while allowing three earned runs and five hits. He finished with two strikeouts.

Monday’s Game

Clay County 17, Jackson County 10

The Tigers fell behind 7-2 before exploding for eight runs in the fourth inning, and seven runs in the fifth inning to pick up a 17-10 win.

Luke Hillard picked up the win, and came up clutch on the mound. He entered in the third inning, and tossed five innings while scattering seven hits, and allowing only three earned runs. He also struck out five batters.

Tyson Wagers led the way at the plate with three hits, four RBI, and three runs scored while Ethan Jackson drove in two runs. Clay County had four players drive in a run apiece.
