Clay County picks up 10-7 win over Bullitt Central, ties with Hazard, 3-3

Jason Smith’s Clay County Tigers posted a 1-0-1 record during this past weekend’s David Melton Memorial Classic.

Clay County’s defeated Bullitt Central, 10-7, and tied with Hazard, 3-3.

“It was a solid win for the boys to finish the week with,” Smith said of his team’s win over Bullitt Central. “We’ve been fighting the injury bug on and off all year, but we’ve had guys step in and play good baseball for us and give us a chance to win.”

The Tigers spotted Bullitt Central a 4-0 lead in the first inning, and fought back to win, 10-7.

Ryan Hastings got the win on the mound, tossing five innings while allowing five hits, and three earned runs, and striking out five batters. Tyson Wagers, and Brandin Crawford each pitched an inning of relief apiece with neither pitcher allowing a hit or a run. Crawford struck out two batters.

Crawford also had a huge game at the plate, connecting with a home run, and a double while driving in two runs, and scoring three times. Ethan Jackson was 3-for-4 with four RBI, and two runs scored while Hastings also delivered two hits. Aiden Wagers had a hit, and drove in two runs while Aidan Roberts finished with a hit, and an RBI. Tate Rice, and Zach Saylor each finished with a hit, and a run scored apiece while Tyson Wagers had a hit, and scored three times.

Clay County’s 3, Hazard 3

Clay County’s Luke Hillard turned in an impressive effort on the hill, pitching seven innings while allowing seven hits, one earned run, and striking out seven batters. Ethan Jackson pitched two scoreless innings of relief while fanning two batters.

Jackson also led Clay County with two hits while Lucas Allen had a hit, an RBI, and a run scored.
