Clutch pitching and hitting lead Clay County to hard fought win over Perry Central

HAZARD — The combination of pitchers Ethan, and Brandin Crawford proved to be too much during Clay County’s 3-2 win over Perry Central on Tuesday.

Jackson tossed six innings allowing only five hits, and one earned run while striking out three batters.

Crawford pitched one inning, allowing no hits or runs while striking out two batters.

Clay County’s Crawford also came up big at the plate with a run-scoring hit while Talan Marcum, and Ryan Hastings drove in runs.

The win improved the Tigers to 11-8-1.

“Great pitching and defense got us the win tonight,” Clay County coach Jason Smith said. “Ethan Jackson gave us six strong innings and brandin Crawford came in and got the save. Defensively we were great behind both of them.

“Clutch hits tonight by Crawford, Hastings and Marcum put us enough runs on the board to get the win,” he added. “Their pitcher was really good tonight so to pick up the win with him on the mounds is huge for us.”
