Marcum shines at the plate, and on the mound during Clay County’s 14-4 win over Claiborne

Clay County got back to its winning ways by handing Tennessee’s Claiborne High School a 14-4 loss.

Talan Marcum turned in a gem on the pitcher’s mound while helping the Tigers improve to 12-9-1 on the season.

Marcum tossed five innings, scattering seven hits while allowing three earned runs. He also struck out four batters. Brandin Crawford pitched one inning of relief, striking out two of the four batters he faced.

“Big day for Talan Marcum on the mound, and at the plate to help us get the win,” Clay County coach Jason Smith said. “Tyson Wagers and Ethan Jackson also had a big days at the plate. 

“I’m proud of the boys coming back after a tough game the night before and picking up a big win,” he added. “Claiborne threw some really good arms at us but we were able to get timely hitting.”

Marcum also helped his own cause at the plate, connecting with a home run, and a double while turning in a 2-for-4 effort at the plate. He drove in four runs, and scored once. Tyson Wagers was 4-for-5 with three RBI, and two runs scored while Ethan Jackson was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBI, and one run scored. Zachary Saylor finished with a hit, two RBI, and two runs scored while Ryan Hastings had a hit, an RBI, and scored once. Hayden Crockett collected a hit, and scored twice while Aidan Roberts scored twice, and Crawford scored once.
