DIXON LAW OFFICE FASTPITCH TOP 10: North Laurel unseats Corbin as region’s top-ranked team

WEEK NINE RANKINGS

1. North Laurel (30-2)

It looked as if Corbin was gonna go wire to wire ranked No. 1, but Chris Edwards’ North Laurel Lady Jaguars unseated the defending 13th Region champions as the No. 1 ranked team during the final poll by handing the Lady Redhounds a 6-1 loss last week.

2. Corbin (19-7)

Now it’s time for the Lady Redhounds to defend their 13th Region championship. Corbin won three out of its last six games entering postseason play, and will be right in the mix to capture another 50th District crown. But first things first, the Lady Redhounds must get past Williamsburg in the semis of the 50th District Tournament.

3. South Laurel (17-11)

The Lady Cardinals remain a dangerous team, and when they’re playing their “A” game, they can beat anyone in the region. The duo of Kenzie Williams, and Madison Worley in the pitcher’s circle will be keys to South Laurel’s postseason success.

4. Lynn Camp (18-14)

When the Lady Wildcats are hot, they’re hot, and when they’re cold, they’re cold, but good news for Lynn Camp fans, Nikki Hendrix has her squad playing the best it has this season. Can the Lady Wildcats get past Knox Central in semifinal action of the 51st District Tournament next week? If so, it will be one heck of a coaching job Hendrix has out in this season after losing the amount of talent she did last season due to graduation.

5. Whitley County (12-23)

The Lady Colonels have played one heck of a schedule that will have them prepared and ready for their 50th District Tournament semifinal matchup with No. 3 South Laurel.

6. Pineville (9-9)

The Lady Mountain Lions have been inconsistent this season. But don’t forget, they are the top seed in the 51st District Tournament for a reason — they’re good.

7. Harlan County (16-14)

The 52nd District Tournament is going to be fun to watch. Three of the four teams are ranked in the top 10, and you can’t count out Harlan. But for now, the Lady Black Bears have to be considered the favorite.

8. Middlesboro (14-13)

The Lady Yellow Jackets picked up two big wins over Bell County, and Pineville before dropping a 16-3 decision to Corbin this past week.

9. Bell County (16-7)

The Lady Bobcats have been a hard team to figure out. They’re 5-6 against regional teams ranked in the top 10.

10. Clay County (12-14)

The Lady Tigers looked like they were gonna be one of the top teams earlier this season after they started the season winning six of their first seven games. Unfortunately, they’re 6-13 since. They possess a 7-9 record against regional teams in the top 10.
