Knox Central captures eighth consecutive 51st District title with 13-0 win over Barbourville 

BARBOURVILLE — Casey Bright, and Grant Miller brought their “A” games to the pitcher’s mound during Wednesday’s 51st District Base Tournament title game against Barbourville, and shut the Tigers’ bats down.

The duo combined to limit Barbourville to one hit during Knox Central’s 13-0 win, as the Panthers will enter this Saturday’s 13th Region Baseball Tournament at Corbin High School with a 16-12 mark while the Tigers will take an 11-14 record into the tournament.

Bright tossed 3 2/3 inning of scoreless and hitless baseball while striking out six batters. Miller finished the game allowing one hit and No runs during the final 1 1/3 innings.

Austin Bargo went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI, and a run scored while Hayden Melton went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and two runs scored. Bright was perfect at the plate, going 2-for-2 while scoring twice. Jacob Osborne finished with a hit, and three RBI while Steve Partin collected a hit, an RBI, and a run scored. Brady Engle had a hit, and scored three times while Jaden Broughton connected with a hit, and scored twice. Zach Carroll also scored once.

Colby Peters had Barbourville’s lone hit as Matthew Warren took the loss, allowing five hits, and eight earned run in 2 1/3 of an inning. He finished with one strikeout. Kieran Pearson pitched the final 1 2/3 of an inning, allowing six hits, and five earned runs while striking out two batters.
