CORBIN — Clay County scored in every inning of its first round 13th Region Tournament matchup with Barbourville, and never looked back during its, 12-3.
Led by Ethan Jackson’s shut down effort on the mound, the Tigers (20-11-1) will now face off against defending region championship Corbin on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
“Survive and advance is what everyone is trying to do come region time,” Clay County coach Jason Smith said. “We were very sluggish after being off a week but we battled, got great pitching and ran the bases well to get the the win.”
Jackson pitched five innings, allowing no hits or runs while striking out nine batters. Tate Marcum, and Brandon Crawford came in relief, and turned in two solid innings.
The Tigers held a slim 4-3 advantage before scoring eight unanswered runs.
Jackson drove in two runs in the win while four other players drove in runs for Clay County.
