First Annual Forcht Bank Junior Golf Tournament held at Indian Springs

Indian Springs Country Club hosted its first annual Forcht Bank Junior Golf Tournament Saturday August 5. Tournament director Collin Grubb said “we are trying to start a tradition of having something for our youth to compete in and raise the interest of this game in our community.”

Junior Golfers turned out representing the area as the tournament was broke down into two divisions. In the 10-14 Age Division Ben Hembree not only turned in the lowest score in the whole tournament, but Won this division in dominating fashion. Ethan Gambrel finished 2nd and Reed Phillips rounded out the podium.

In the 15-18 Age Division, whether it be consistency or an untimely mistake made for a day of the podium battling it out down to the Final Hole. Samuel Collins, Will Freeman and Mikey Neal were within 2 shots of each other but the consistency of Collins prevailed after untimely misses by Freeman and Neal. Samuel Collins was the victor. Will Freeman was 2nd and Mikey Neal 3rd after it was all finished.

“I can’t thank my sponsors enough. They provided trophies, we gave away a TaylorMade Stealth2 Driver and golf balls. Also, Spencer Jones, who is the Superintendent has the golf course in great shape and we got to show it off” said Grubb.

Corbin Coach Joe Roberts said “with the vast number of golf courses that have disappeared or on the verge of disappearing in our area, all these clubs should take notice to this event. These kids in the next 10 years are your membership. Trust me, they will remember who invested in them and who didn’t when they have their own money to spend. Indian Springs and Collin Grubb is winning that race. There should be a flurry of these events by all the golf courses put on like Invitationals, however the numbers in those dwindle every year.”

With an emphasis on Junior Golf in the middle of the High School season, Collin Grubb says “when I mentioned Junior Golf these sponsors and my community rose to the occasion.
