Volleyball Preseason Top 10
1. Corbin (28-6)
Can the Lady Redhounds win their sixth straight 13th Region Tournament championship?
That’s the big question entering the 2022 volleyball season. This we know — Coach Vanessa Ross will have to replace five seniors that were huge in her team’s dominance the past five years.
Corbin has won 49 straight matches against 13th Region opponents with its last loss against a regional opponent taking place on Oct. 12, 2017.
2. Whitley County (26-9)
Six players return from last season’s Lady Colonel team that made another deep postseason run.
Coach David Halcomb has Whitley County right on the brink of bringing home another regional championship.
3. North Laurel (12-18)
The Lady Jaguars have a new coach in James Hendrix while Jane Locke, Emma Parman, Maria Yount, and Olivia Parker look to play a big key in North Laurel’s success this fall.
4. South Laurel (15-10)
The Lady Cardinals started strong but finished last season with a 3-8 mark that saw them miss the 13th Region Tournament.
Coach Jamie Clark’s team lost five seniors from the 2021 squad, and will look to make a deep postseason run. But to do so, South Laurel must find a way to get past either Corbin or Whitley County.
5. Bell County (22-9)
Gracie Jo Wilder’s presence alone makes the Lady Bobcats a contender to not only win the 52nd District championship but the 13th Region crown as well.
6. Jackson County (17-8)
The Lady Generals turned in one of their best-ever seasons before bowing out to Whitley County in the 13th Region Tournament. With most of their talent returning, including sophomore Abby Gilbert and Jenna Creech, look for Jackson County to make another run at the 49th District title.
7. Knox Central (11-12)
The Lady Panthers were in a bit of a rebuild mode last season but still managed to win the 51st District championship along with reaching the 13th Region Tournament. Look for Knox Central to continue to make noise this season with seniors Madison Jones and Loretta Mills returning.
8. Williamsburg (12-19)
Lady Yellow Jacket coach Dirk Berta has done a fantastic job building Williamsburg’s volleyball program into a competitive team.
The Lady Yellow Jackets win 12 games last season, and look for them to win even more this fall.
9. Pineville (11-13)
The Lady Mountain Lions are a team on the rise. They hope to build off last season’s 51st District runner-up effort, and with the talent they return, they should be able to.
Keep an eye on the play of McKenzie Widener and Addison Slone.
10. Harlan (7-9)
The Lady Green Dragons only played 16 matches this past season but remained a dangerous team in the 52nd District. Marissa Marlowe and Annie Hoskins look to lead the way once again.
