BUBBY’S BARBECUE TEAM OF THE WEEK: Jackson County Generals

Jackson County’s football program celebrated a long-awaited victory at home, ending a 1,434-day drought. The last time the Generals won a home game was on Sept. 20, 2019, when they defeated Bracken County with a score of 30-0. Since then, they had suffered 14 consecutive losses in front of their home crowd. However, the Generals turned the tables on Friday with a dominant 59-22 win over Knott Central.
“This was a significant night for our program,” Jackson County coach Nicholas Sizemore said. “Since I joined as head coach last season, I knew we had work to do. Football wasn’t a popular subject in Jackson County, but this year, we have a dedicated group of kids who are determined to change the direction of Jackson County Football. We even have athletes who have never played football before, but they joined because they want to be part of the change.”
Despite a heartbreaking 8-6 loss to Trimble County in their season opener two weeks ago, Sizemore and his Generals felt they had something to prove on Friday. They certainly did, scoring the third-highest number of points in program history. It’s worth noting that the Generals only scored 34 points throughout the entire previous season.
“Our team emerged victorious against Knott County on Friday night, igniting a new energy in our community,” Sizemore expressed. “We have gained much-needed momentum, and we plan to capitalize on it. We eagerly anticipate the positive outcomes that will result from this exceptional team.”
