Lady Cardinals remain unbeaten against regional foes, defeat Middlesboro, 10-0

LONDON — South Laurel continues its unbeaten streak against 13th Region opponents this season thanks to a quick 10-0 victory over Middlesboro on Monday.

The Lady Cardinals improved to 9-3 overall, and 4-0 against regional opponents while the Lady Yellow Jackets fell to 9-4 overall, and 5-2 against 13th Region opponents.

Six different players scored for South Laurel with Ella Rison, Gracie Hoskins, Josie Gill, and Avery Sauer scoring two goals apiece. Megan Smith, and Brooke Clontz scored a goal apiece in the win.

“Tonight’s game was all about teamwork, the seniors, and playing for Tess Little,” South Laurel coach Lora Rison said. “Up until this year, Tess has been our starting keeper, but in the preseason she tore her ACL and has had to spend her senior year on the sidelines.

“Our six seniors have been together for a long time, and tonight they were able to celebrate their accomplishments,” she added. “They were selfless in play, created movement and each player was able to score. Shelby Gambrel, who has done an amazing job stepping up in goal, also had her first shut out of the season.”

South Laurel scored early and often in the match with Rison’s goal at the five minute mark giving her team a 1-0 edge.

Hoskins followed with two consecutive goals pushing her team’s lead to 3-0 while Rison’s second goal of the match at the 12 minute mark made the score, 4-0.

Gill’s first goal of the match during the 17th minute made the score, 5-0, while Sauer added two more goals, and Smith scored once to give South Laurel an 8-0 lead at halftime.

Gill added another goal during the 45th minute while Clontz’s goal during the 39th minute wrapped up the 10-goal victory.

The Lady Cardinals are scheduled to be back in action Saturday at home against Great Crossing. The game is slated for a 4 p.m. start.
