Redhounds lock up 49th District’s top seed with third consecutive clean sheet

CORBIN — Roger Taylor’s Corbin Redhounds locked up the 49th District’s top seed on Monday by handing Oneida Baptist a 3-0 loss.

The goals were few and far between for a while until JP Winchester scored during the 21st minute while Rizzo Cima added two goals during the 51st and 75th minute.

“Proud of the team for focusing tonight and locking up the number one seed,” Taylor said. “Goals by Rizzo Cima and JP Winchester were enough to beat a good and improving Oneida side.

“We were also able to secure our third clean sheet in three games, thanks to a great defensive effort by the back line,” he added. “Logan Wise and Blake Butler have been a great duo, and ever since transitioning to three at the back we have been very solid and hard to break down.”

The Redhounds (6-4-1) are winners of five straight, and now improve to 5-0 against 49th District teams.

Corbin has recorded three consecutive shut outs during the win streak while outscoring its opponents, 12-2.

Oneida Baptist falls to 8-3 overall, and 1-1 in 49th District play.

The Redhounds will hit the road for their final two regular season games against Boyle County (Thursday), and Madison Central (Saturday).

“We have two very good opponents to finish out the regular season and then we can focus on training and improving as much as possible before the post season starts,” Taylor said.
