HARLAN — The defending 13th Region champion Whitley County Colonels improved to a 13th Region-best 16-1 after defeating Harlan 25-4, and 25-9.
“I thought we played really solid through the match,” Whitley County coach David Halcomb said. “Overall, our serving was much better tonight. We’ve been working on a couple new offensive schemes and had an opportunity to work on those a little tonight. I’m proud of our girls. To be 16-1 is quite an accomplishment, but we still have more work to do.
“In my opinion, we have our most important week coming up and our girls have to be focused,” he added. “We have our First Priority Tourney on Saturday where we will face some great competition, then next week we have both North Laurel and Corbin at home. It’s a huge week for us. Our girls will be ready.”
Whitley County will open the First Priority Tournament against Pulaski County at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The Lady Colonels will play again at 1 p.m. against Adair County, and then again at 2 p.m. McCreary Central.
