HAZARD — Business as usual.
Corbin never had a letdown after its huge 6-0 win over Frederick Douglass last week.
The Redhounds took care of business on Friday, recording their third shut out in a row while dominating Hazard from beginning to end during there 42-0 win.
The Redhounds move to 5-0, and recorded its first win over the Bulldogs dating back to 2009. Friday’s meeting marked only the third time the two teams had met since 2009.
Corbin now leads the overall series, 20-7 while winning 11 of the past 12 meetings.
“It was a good win for us against a rich-tradition football program,” Corbin coach Tom Greer said. “I talked to our guys all week that we can’t have a let down. We came in and took care of business. Time to get ready for Johnson Central.
“It was very important was to get off to a good start,” he added. “We didn’t want to start off sluggish. We needed to make a gap early in and had our way and executed well in the second quarter.”
Corbin wasted little time taking control of the game against the outmanned Bulldogs.
The Redhounds scored at will in the first half, building a commanding, 42-0, advantage.
Kade Elam accounted for three passing touchdowns in the first two quarters, and also ran for a score.
His 45-yard touchdown pass to Carter Stewart gave the Redhounds an early, 7-0, edge. Elam followed that with a one-yard touchdown run that pushed Corbin’s lead to 14-0 at the 4:44 mark of the first quarter.
Cam Estep’s three-yard touchdown run gave the Redhounds a 21-0 lead early in the second quarter while Cole Stevens added a two-yard touchdown run to make the score, 28-0.
Joe Wes Roberts’ interception midway through the second quarter allowed Elam and Stewart to hook up a second time for another touchdown, this time from 44-yards out while Elam’s third touchdown pass, a 44-yarder to Estep, gave Corbin a 42-0 cushion at halftime.
The Redhounds will be back in action Friday against Johnson Central.
