Jackets’ win win streak to two games with blowout win over North Greene, Tenn.

WILLIAMSBURG — Jerry Herron’s Williamsburg Yellow Jackets will be entering next week’s district matchup against Pineville with tons of momentum after capturing their second consecutive win on Friday.

The Yellow Jackets (2-2) received another stellar effort from Nate Goodin, and Hunter Thomas combined with solid defensive play to knock off North Greene, Tenn., 52-7.

Goodin threw for two touchdowns, and ran for another while Thomas found paydirt once carrying the ball while also adding four two-point conversions.

”It was a great win for us tonight,” Williamsburg coach Jerry Herron said. “We were able to execute on offense tonight. Defense controlled line of scrimmage, and we made a lot of good plays. Pleased with our guys tonight. We got a good win.

“It’s a continued work in process,” he added. “Making improvements day by day. Our kids are coming along, running ball, and catching the better. We are excited, but we realize we still have a long way to go to be competitive in district and region play, those are our goals.”

A big kick-off return from Williamsburg’s Matthew Davis to open the game set up the Yellow Jackets’ first touchdown.

A few plays later, Hunter Thomas scored from 14-yards out to give his team a 6-0 lead with 10:53 remaining in the first quarter.

Thomas’ 15-yard run on Williamsburg’s ensuing possession led to Nate Goodin’s 14-yard touchdown pass to Jamon O’Donnell, increasing the Yellow Jackets’ edge to 14-0 with 1:38 remaining in the first quarter.

Williamsburg continued to control the game in the second quarter. Goodin’s 28-yard pass to Peyton Hamilton set up his 12-yard rushing touchdown to make the score 22-0 at the 10:02 mark of the second quarter.

Goodin and O’Donnell hooked up again a few minutes later for another score, this time from 20-yards out, pushing the Yellow Jackets’ lead to 30-0 with 6:20 remaining in the first half.

Goodin put the finishing touches on Williamsburg’s first half dominance with a 22-yard touchdown run to give his team a 38-0 lead at halftime. Thomas had a rushing touchdown while also converting four two-point conversions during the first half.

The Yellow Jackets added another score at the 2:36 mark of the third quarter as Goodin’s 24-yard run set up Peyton Tye’s first touchdown run of the game.

Tye raced 20 yards and found paydirt to give his team a 44-0 lead. Goodin added the two-point conversion to increase Williamsburg’s advantage to 46-0.

Both teams added another score late in the fourth quarter, as the Yellow Jackets cruise to a 46-point win.
