Tigers drop first game of the season, lose to Rockcastle County, 63-26

MOUNT VERNON — The Clay County Tigers saw their perfect season come to an end on Friday after dropping a 63-26 loss to Rockcastle County.

The Tigers hung tough for two quarters, leading for most of the first quarter before the Rockets rallied to take a 29-20 edge into the locker room at halftime.

Rockcastle County out the game away in the third quarter, outscoring Clay County, 34-6, en route to its 37-point win.

Clay County’s Tate Rice completed 20-of-32 pass attempts for two touchdowns while rushing for 31 yards and a score. Aiden Wagers led the Tigers with six receptions, and 113 yards while Lucas Allen carried the ball 10 times for a team-best 49 yards.

Clay County’s defense had a hard time slowing down Rockcastle County quarterback Tucker Warren, who threw for 147 yards, and three touchdowns while rushing for 118 yards and one touchdown. Christian Larkey added 35 receiving yards, and a touchdown, while finding the end zone four times carrying the ball, and finishing with 69 rushing yards.
