Cardinals snap seven-game losing skid with 8-2 victory over Pikeville 

LONDON — It took almost three weeks, but the South Laurel boys’ soccer team finally got back into  the win column on Saturday.

South Laurel snapped a seven-game losing skid while scoring more goals in Saturday’s 8-2 victory over Pikeville than it did during the its 0-7 run.

The Cardinals (5-9-3) will now look to continue their winning ways on Tuesday at home against Pulaski County while finishing regular season play on Thursday against Barbourville.

Ethan Emge’s header into the back of the net seven minutes into the contest gave South Laurel an early 1-0 lead. It was the first goal the Cardinals had scored in four games.

Zach Rayburn’s goal 11 minutes in increased South Laurel’s lead to 2-0. Liam Zik followed with a goal 10 minutes later while Ryan Martinez found the back of the next to give the Cardinals a 4-0 edge during the 27 minute mark.

A goal by Brodie Gill two minutes later made the score, 5-0, while Zik’s second goal pushed South Laurel’s lead to 6-0 during the 49 minute mark. 

Pikeville scored two goals during a 15-minute span to cut its deficit to 6-2 with 17 minutes remaining in regulation while an own goal by the Panthers and a header by Taitum Harris out the finishing touches on South Laurel’s 8-2 win.
