Corbin gains experience, confidence during stay in Halloween Bash event

LAFAYETTE — Vanessa Ross’ Corbin Lady Redhounds continue to prepare themselves for the upcoming postseason tournaments, and what better way than to play some of the best teams across the state during this past weekend’s Lafayette High School’s Halloween Smash.

The Lady Redhounds posted a 3-2 mark during their stay while improving to 15-5.

Corbin picked up wins over Newport Central Catholic (26-24, 16-25, 15-10), John Hardin (25-23, 25-20), and Fort Knox (25-11, 25-17) while dropping matches to Lafayette (25-17, 25-23), and Wolfe County (27-29, 25-17, 15-12).

“We played some really good competition. I feel that we grew a lot this weekend,” Ross said. “We were able to push back and make smart plays when we were down which shows that we are maturing.

“We also were able to make adjustments that needed to be made and everyone wanted to help each other out to insure that they were in the correct spots pertaining to defense,” she added. “Overall, we went 3-2 on the weekend and I am proud of my girls. Go Redhounds.”

Corbin will be back in action Tuesday at South Laurel before facing Whitley County for the third time this season with a home match scheduled for Thursday.
