WILLIAMSBURG — Autumn Sawyers’ memorable junior campaign continues on Tuesday.
After rewriting the history book and becoming the girls’ soccer program’s leader in goals scored in a season, she is now on the cusp of holding the 13th Region goals scored in a season record.
Sawyers found the back of the net five times during the Lady Colonels’ 10-0 win over McCreary Central, and now has 56 goals on the season which ties former North Laurel star Jenna Rockwell record she set in 2016.
Whitley County scored early and often in the match to improve to 11-4 overall. The Lady Colonels are only two wins away from matching the program record of 13 wins they set in 2017.
“The girls got back on track tonight,” Whitley County coach Michael Sawyers said. “They played solid and controlled the game. Our defense only allowed 6 shots on goal.”
Deserae Haynes added two goals in the win while Kimberly White, Makayla Strunk, and Maddie Earls each scored a goal apiece.
Whitley County will play in its final regular season game on Thursday at home at 6:30 p.m. against Clinton County.
