WILLIAMSBURG — Whitley County junior Autumn Sawyers set the 13th Region’s Girls’ Soccer single season record of goals scored by notching her 57th goal just 20 seconds into the Lady Colonels’ match against Clinton County on Thursday.
Sawyers surpassed former North Laurel Lady Jaguars star Jenna Rockwell’s former record of 56 goals in a season.
“It was a good game,” she said. “I felt like it was good team work going into district play.
“It feels really good knowing that I’ve worked at soccer really long, and now I have accomplished something, I never thought I would do. I couldn’t have done it without my teammates, and my coaches. I also want to thank my brother for being on my sized to support me in everything I do.”
Sawyers scored four goals in the 12-0 win, and now has 60 this season.
