MOREHEAD — Whitley County’s Marissa Douglas recorded her 1,000th kill while the Lady Colonels posted a 3-0 record during their stay in the Eastern Kentucky Tournament of Champions.
Whitley County improved to an impressive 27-2 after picking up wins over Rowan County (25-18, 25-12), Raceland (25-15, 25-23), and Russell (25-22, 25-20).
“Just a very solid day for us as we were able to get 2-0 wins over three very good teams — Raceland, Rowan County and Russell,” Whitley County coach David Halcomb said. “I saw some improvement today with our defense and talking on the floor. Our girls had fun today and was a total team effort.
“Congrats to Marissa Douglas on getting her 1,000th kill — quite an accomplishment,” he added. “We will head into fall break next week with two home matches. I’m pleased with how we are playing, and continue to show improvement. We host Knox Central on Tuesday and Harlan County on Thursday. We would love to have good crowds for each of those matches.”
Whitley County will host Knox Central Tuesday, and play its final regular season game at home Thursday against Harlan County.
