WILLIAMSBURG — The defending 13th Region champion Whitley County Lady Colonels are finishing regular season play strong, capturing their 12th win in a row with a 25-15, 25-9, and 25-6 win over Knox Central.
“I thought we took a very business-like approach tonight and did what we needed to do,” Whitley County coach David Halcomb said. “We had a little trouble finding the court early on, but tightened that up as we went along. This was one of our best team serving matches of the season as we made very few service errors. We have a good coaching staff of Heather (Smith), Caitlyn (Decker) and Mickayla (McCoig) — they are doing a great job of picking out little things we can improve upon and it’s showing up in the way we are playing.
“Our girls have done a great job of staying humble and maintaining a hunger to get get better each time out,” he added. We are a close knit group — special thing to be a part of. Thursday is going to be an emotional night as we honor and recognize our nine seniors. These girls mean a lot to me and I’m honestly not looking forward to it.”
The win improved the Lady Colonels to a 13th Region-best 28-2 overall, and 14-0 against 13th Region teams. They have now won 20 consecutive games against regional opponents.
