The Lynn Camp Lady Wildcats cross country team entered the season with high expectations, and they lived up to them during their first meet with a second place effort in the McCreary Central Invitational on Thursday.
Abby Mabe placed first overall in the race finishing with a time of 21.14.19. Whitley County’s Sophy Jones finished second with a time of 22:17.81 while Lynn Camp’s Lillian Henize placed fifth (24:30.83).
Williamsburg’s top finisher was Heaven Warren at eighth place (25:21.23) while the Lady Wildcats’ Laurin Partin finished in ninth place with a time of 25.31.85.
Southwestern won the team title with 36 points while Lynn Camp placed second with 40 points. Williamsburg finished third with 67 points while McCreary Central finished fourth with 59 points.
“It was a great first meet of the season,” Lynn Camp coach Marc Estep said. “Congratulations to Abby Mabe as the individual winner and Lily Henize with a fifth place finish. It’s to be a fun year. I’m very proud of all of these kids.”
Also participating in the race were Lynn Camp’s Madison Weymers (13th), Lindsey Cox (17th), Arabell Pennington (24th), Savannah Thacker (26th), Kadence Huff (29th), Cambree Prewitt (30th); Williamsburg’s Ryan Fields (12th), Emma Meadors (15th), Abiggail Jackson (19th), Emaly Powers (20th), Alyssa Boone (34th); Whitley County’s Abigail Stone (16th), and Val Sears (33rd).
