WILLIAMSBURG — Whitley County wrapped up a special regular season in what better way?
A win of course?
The Lady Colonels improved to 29-2 with a convincing, 3-0, win over visiting Harlan County on Thursday.
Whitley County finishes regular season play with a 13-game win streak while posting a perfect 15-0 mark against 13th Region opponents.
The Lady Colonels will now switch their focus to winning next week’s 50th District Tournament at South Laurel High School.
The Lady Colonels, who are a perfect 7-0 against district competition, will face-off Monday at 6 p.m. against No. 4 seed Williamsburg, a team they have defeated twice this season.
“Wonderful night for our volleyball family,” Whitley County coach David Halcomb said. “We had a tremendous crowd tonight to honor our nine seniors on Senior Night. These girls and their families are so deserving of the recognition we were able to give them. I just can’t say enough about this group — high character, hard working, humble young ladies who truly play for one another. It’s a joy and a blessing to be able to coach them.
“We played really well tonight and were able to get a 3-0 win over a solid team in Harlan County,” he added. “They will be a region tournament team and I respect the job their coaching staff has done with their team. It’s a new season starting Monday. Our girls know this and we will be right back in the gym in the morning to prepare for a good Williamsburg team. Thanks to everyone who came out tonight — it was a great atmosphere.”
Against Harlan County on Thursday, Whitley County dominated throughout all three sets, winning the first and second sets with identical 25-13 scores before pulling out a 25-19 win in the third set.
