CORBIN — The brackets are set, and David Halcomb’s Whitley County Lady Colonels are ready to defend their 13th Region championship.
Whitley County (31-2) enters Saturday’s 13th Region Tournament as a heavy favorite to repeat after compiling a perfect 17-0 mark against 13th Region teams.
They possess a 4-0 mark against Corbin, a 2-0 record against North Laurel, two of the three (Bell County) biggest threats to unseat the Lady Colonels.
Whitley County (50th District), North Laurel (49th District), Pineville (51st District), and Bell County (52nd District) enters the tournament as their respective district’s champions while Jackson County (49th District), Corbin (50th District), Knox Central (51st District), and Harlan County (52nd District) enters the tournament as their respective district’s runner-ups.
North Laurel (17-14) and Corbin (17-8) will start the tournament at 12 p.m. while the winner will play the winner of the 6 p.m. game between Pineville (18-10), and Harlan County (18-9).
Whitley County and Jackson County (17-20) plays at 2 p.m. and the winner will play the winner of the 4 p.m. game between Bell County (31-6), and Knox Central (5-16).
The semifinals are scheduled to be played on Monday at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. while the title game is scheduled to be played Tuesday at 6 p.m.
