Lady Cardinals drop 10-0 decision in Elite Eight matchup against Notre Dame

PARK HILLS — South Laurel coach Lora Rison knew her team would have their hands full heading into Thursday’s Elite Eight showdown against Notre Dame.

The Pandas (21-3-2) entered the contest as one of the top teams in the state, and showed why, scoring eight goals in the first half en route to their 10-0 victory over the Lady Cardinals.

“We knew coming into the game they were going to be some of the best competition we’ve faced,” Rison said. “We had some moments in the beginning where we held them, and we’re hanging in there. We had a few mistakes and they were able to capitalize on them. Our offense never really got going, mostly in part to Notre Dame’s high pressure defense. I am proud of our girls, despite getting down, we never gave up. Our team has everything to be proud of this season.”

Notre Dame has now won 10 games in a row, and improves to 2-0 overall against South Laurel.

The Lady Cardinals finishes the season with a 14-7 record while capturing the 13th Region championship, and earning an Elite Eight appearance for the second time in three years.

The shut out marked the first time in eight games South Laurel was held without a goal, and only the third time this season.
