CORBIN — Both Lynn Camp and Pineville hooked up in an old-fashioned district battle on Friday with the Mountain Lions doing just enough to secure a 29-23 win.
The win improved Pineville to 2-7 overall, and 2-2 in district play while the Wildcats fell to 2-7 and 0-4.
“We came out in the first half and played good, solid football,” Pineville coach Allen Harris sisd. “We got up a few scores and executed the game plan. I think we came out over confident in the second half, and didn’t execute well and Lynn Camp did a great job taking us out of our game plan. They have improved tremendously over the season but we did enough to get the win and at the end of the day that’s all that matters. “We have to focus on a very good Leslie County team for next week before playoffs.”
Deacon Partin threw for three touchdown passes in the first half as Pineville built a 29-7 advantage before Lynn Camp began to rally.
The Wildcats scored 16 points in the fourth quarter behind Jason Lowe’s fumble recovery that went for a score and Lowe’s touchdown receptions cut Lynn Camp’s deficit to 29-23 with
50 seconds remaining in the game, but the damage had been done.
“We played hard,” Lynn Camp coach Darrell Hendrix said. “My kids didn’t quit. They kept fighting till the end. We’re are getting better every week. I’m proud of this team and we will get there it’s just gonna take time. We overcame a 29-7 halftime score to give ourselves a chance at the end.”
Lynn Camp will close regular season play next week at home against McCreary Central at 7:30 p.m. while the Mountain Lions will go on the road and play Leslie County.
