CORBIN — McCreary Central’s Logan Mitchell was a one-man wrecking crew during McCreary Central’s 37-14 win over Lynn Camp on Friday.
Mitchell ran for more than 100 yards and found paydirt four times as the Raiders captured their first win of the season while the Wildcats dropped their seventh straight game and will enter next week’s Class A playoffs with a 2-8 record.
“I’ve said it all year, this team doesn’t quit,” Lynn Canp coach Darrell Hendrix said. “Our record doesn’t show it but this bunch has battled every game this year. I’m proud of this team. I really wish we could’ve got the win for these seniors on senior night. Now we gotta get ready to go to Middlesboro.”
McCreary Central built a 16-0 lead before Lynn Camp finally got on the scoreboard with less than two minutes remaining in the first half.
The Raiders’ Logan Mitchell broke free for a 20-yard touchdown run at the 9:37 mark of the first quarter while Peyton Higginbotham’s pass to Jacob Cecil converted the two-point play to push McCreary Central’s lead to 8-0.
Mitchell added his second touchdown run with 3:45 left in the first quarter while also converting the two-point conversion, pushing the Raiders’ advantage to 16-0.
DJ Wren scored the Wildcats’ first touchdown with a two-yard run. He also added the two-point conversion to cut Lynn Camp’s deficit to 16-8 at halftime.
Higginbotham started the second half where he left off in the first.
He added another touchdown rushing , this time a 31-yarder, as McCreary Central’s lead grew to 22-8 with 8:38 left in the third quarter.
Lynn Camp answered on its next offensive series.
Wren threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Jason Lowe with 33 seconds remaining in the third quarter to cut the Wildcats’ deficit to 22-14.
The Raiders answered quickly and took control of the game for good when Mitchell’s four-yard touchdown run gave McCreary Central a two-touchdown lead at 30-14 with 6:15 remaining in regulation.
Mitchell added another rushing touchdown with less than two minutes left as the Raiders put the game out of reach.
