LEXINGTON — Both North Laurel and South Laurel High Schools had girls’ soccer players named to the Girls’ State Soccer East All-State Honorable Mention Team.
Lady Jaguar Makayla Mastin joins Lady Cardinals Ella Rison, and Josie Gill as Honorable Mention selections.
Rison and Gill both played a big part in South Laurel’s success this season.
They helped guide the Lady Cardinals to a 14-7 record, 49th District runner-up, a 13th Region championship, and an appearance in the KHSAA Elite Eight.
Gill led South Laurel with 28 goals, and finished with 15 assists while Rison scored 15 goals, and led the team with 17 assists.
“Josie Gill and Ella Rison are top notch players,” South Laurel coach Lora Rison said. “They have both played competitive soccer for the past 10 years. They are both considering playing at the next level. They were our captains this past season and really did a great job leading our team. They have great chemistry and I am excited to have them represent South in the East All-State Honorable Mention Team.”
Mastin helped guide North Laurel to an 11-5-1 record along with a 49th District championship, and 13th Region runner-up effort.
She led the Lady Jaguars with 30 goals, and 11 assists.
“Makayla Mastin is very deserving of being named to the all-state team,” North Laurel coach Courtney Miller said. “Her effort and leadership ( along with other players) definitely helped us to get to the Region Championship game. Makayla is a smart soccer player who you trust on the field to get the job done. She will be playing forward then you will see her on the back line helping out the defense the next play. She played through injuries this year that would have set most, she is dedicated to her team and is playing with 110% until that final buzzer to get the win for her and her team.”
