BARBOURVILLE — Gavin Chadwell’s first game back as a Panther was a successful one.
The senior forward/center scored 21 points and finished with 18 rebounds to lead Knox Central to a 64-47 win over Owsley County on Monday.
Knox Central, who didn’t record its first win until Jan. 17 last season, is off to a great start under first-year coach Mitchell Madden.
After falling behind 18-13 in the first quarter, the Panthers began to rally, outscoring Owsley County, 19-10, in the second quarter to take a 32-28 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Knox Central outscored the Owls, 16-8, in the third quarter before putting the finishing touches on its 17-point victory by outscoring Owlsey County, 16-11, during the game’s final eight minutes.
Chadwell’s 21 points led the Panthers while Braydon Mills added 10 points, and eighth grader Grayson Burton finished with nine points.
Knox Central will be back in action at home Friday at 8 p.m. against Barbourville.
