MANCHESTER — The Tyler Wagner era at Lynn Camp got off to a strong start as the Wildcats secured a thrilling 59-57 victory over Oneida Baptist on Monday.
Tate Mills led Lynn Camp with 24 points, scoring 16 points in the first quarter while knocking down four 3-pointers. He finished with six 3-pointers.
Ian Agosto added 10 points while Jayden Woods scored nine points, and came up with some key rebounds in the second half. Zach Thorpe added seven points, Ethan Burd followed with six points while Caleb Woods scored three points.
“We came out with a great intensity in the first quarter and really set the pace for the whole night,” Wagner said. “Tate Mills hit some big shots for us in the 1st half by going 6-for-7 from the 3 in the first half. He also played great defense. Ian Agosto came up huge for us with his defense and his aggressive play towards the rim. Ethan Burd had a great game all around. I really think he grew tonight as a player. He hit four free throws at the end to seal the win for us. Jayden Woods, his rebounding in the second half is what helped us the most.
“This was a great win not only for Lynn Camp but for these kids,” he added. “They really have bought in and are playing for each other, not just their own individual recognition, and it’s really showing. But now we have to turn around and play a tough Somerset Christian team tomorrow on the road. So it will be a good test for us. Credit to Larry Gritton Jr. also, he has those kids playing hard tough-nosed basketball and you can see it. They will be tough down the road.”
Canaan Tyree led the Mountaineers with 29 points while Skyler Roberts scored 12 points.
