Middlesboro hands Lynn Camp its second consecutive loss

MIDDLESBORO — Trey King poured in 19 points while Jeremiah Beck added 10 points as Middlesboro held on to hand Lynn Camp its second straight loss with a 52-44 win.

“Our kids battled hard tonight we came out to a hot middlesboro,” Lynn Camp coach Tyler Wagner said. “After the first quarter, we were down 10 then went into halftime down 10. So during half time, we made some adjustments and came out and executed on defense. The second half, we came out and set the tempo we got up by two with four minutes left in the fourth and some costly turnovers really hurt us and middlesboro made us pay for them.

“I’m proud of our team after the tough loss on the road the other night,” he added. “We really responded tonight when we got down and kept fighting. Our defense was able to make adjustments and slow down Trey King who had 15 in the first half, and we held him to four in the second half. That shows growth to me. Credit to Coach Wheat, he has a solid team that he does a tremendous job coaching and they are going to be a tough out for any team in the region.”

King dominated during first half action, scoring 15 points as the Yellow Jackets built a 19-9 lead at the end of the first quarter, and a 29-19 advantage at halftime.

Lynn Camp (1-2) adjusted in the second half, knocking down three 3-pointers in the third quarter while outscoring the Yellow Jackets, 13-6, to cut their deficit to 35-32 with wight minutes remaining in regulation.

Tate Mills connected on two 3-pointers during the period while Ethan Burd added another.

Middlesboro managed to hang on and pull off the win by outscoring Lynn Camp, 17-12, during the fourth quarter.

Becky scored eight points during the period while Cayden Grigsby hit 4-of-4 shot attempts from the free-throw line. He finished with seven points.

Burd and Zach Thorpe both scored five points apiece in the fourth quarter for the Wildcats but the damage had already been done.

Mills led Lynn Camp with 12 points while Ian Agosto added nine points, and Bird, and Thorpe finished with eight, and seven points, respectively.

“We are making huge strides in our program and if you come and watch us, you can tell,” Wagner said. “Yeah the end result may not be exactly what we, want but Rome wasn’t built in a day, and they had a plan to finish it. We have a plan and we are getting closer to that end goal of that plan everyday. Now we get a few days to regroup and get refocused for next week.”
