Jaguars’ scoring woes in third quarter leads to 52-44 loss to CAL

LONDON — North Laurel’s growing pains continued on Friday during a hard-fought 52-44 loss to Christian Academy of Louisville (CAL) in the Legacy Nissan Classic.

The Jaguars led throughout the first half until a costly third quarter turned out to be the deciding factor.

The game was tied at 26-all entering the third quarter but Nate Valentine’s squad struggled shooting from the floor, scoring only six points while allowing CAL to take control of the game.

“Another tough one tonight,” Valentine said. “We’ll stay the course and keep getting better.”

North Laurel (0-2) led 15-13 after the first quarter thanks in part to Reece Davidson scoring eight of his 12 points during the game’s first eight minutes.

A 3-pointer by Jordan Rawlings combined with baskets from Joel Smith, Brody Brock, Davidson, and Kaiden McQueen in the second quarter allowed North Laurel to go into the locker room at half time tied at 26 apiece with the Centurions.

CAL outscored the Jaguars 11-6 in the third quarter, and 15-12 during the game’s final wight minutes to secure the win.

Rawlings also scored in double figures, finishing with 10 points while McQueen finished with seven points. Cooper Elza, Smith, and Brock each scored four points apiece while Kole Jervis added three points.

Jackson Washington led the Centurions with a 26-point scoring effort.
