Barbourville uses 26-12 third quarter run to run away with 78–55 win over Williamsburg

WILLIAMSBURG — Sarah Smith’s 13-point scoring effort in the third quarter paved the way to Barbourville’s 78-55 win in over Williamsburg on Friday.

The game was close at halftime with the Lady Tigers holding on to a 41-29 lead before Smith’s 13 points played a big role in Barbourville’s 26-12 run in the third quarter allowing her team to pull away.

“Tough loss tonight,” Williamsburg coach Melissa Douglas said. “The first two games of the season we have lost two starters to illness and now a concussion. We are still working some things out like team chemistry. In times like this it’s hard to pick up when lineups change so fast. The coaches and I believe in every single player on this team to make a difference. We just need them to become more confident in their individual games first.”

Smith led the Lady Tigers with 23 points while Lauren Smith added 13 points. Marleigh Martin finished with 11 points while Danni Jordan scored 10 points.

Allie Wilson turned in a 15-point scoring effort for Williamsburg while Abby Moses added 14 points, and Ellie Breeding scored 11 points.
