CORBIN — Whitley County placed two players in double figures while having nine players score in Friday’s 59-31 win over Lynn Camp.
Maddy Hopkins scored nine of her team-high 15 points during the opening quarter while Aubree Clemens added 13 points for the Lady Colonels (1-0).
“Good effort from our girls,” Whitley County coach Sean Pigman said. “Proud of how they played as a team the first night out. We shared the ball really well, and had lots of intensity and effort in defense end. We will just continue to work hard and get better.”
Lynn Camp (1-2) fell behind 24-8 in the first quarter and trailed 45-17 at halftime before being outscored, 9-0, in the third quarter.
The Lady Wildcats were led in scoring by Lauren Partin, who finished with eight points while Madison Weymers finished with six points.
“Tonight’s game was rough from the start,” Lynn Camp coach Joshua Mobley said. “They started right out of the gate and jumped out to a comfortable lead. We didn’t take care of the ball tonight due to their ball pressure and their traps.
We are going to have to work more in practice on developing our guards against ball pressure and pressure situations.
“We also have to continue working in practice on boxing out and rebounding the ball,” he added. “I have to prepare these girls better, so that we don’t continue to get punished on second chance points. Lastly, the box score won’t show this, but I was very pleased at times with our defensive rotations. I also was pleased that we didn’t give up in the fourth quarter even with the scoreboard being tilted in their favor. We will prepare this weekend for our upcoming opponents next week and get ready for Monday.”
