Coach Brad Levy’s Pineville Mountain Lions picked up a huge win during Saturday’s Jersey Mike’s Classic
The Mountain Lions outlasted Scott County in overtime, recording an impressive, 72-68, win over the Cardinals.
“I was extremely proud of our team’s resiliency in fighting our way back into the game after the first quarter,” Levy said. “We had several opportunities to lay down but we responded each time Scott County made a run.
“This was a big win for our program to win this one on the road against a program with the history and tradition of Scott County,” he added. “We have enormous respect for who they are and what they’ve been able to do over the years.”
Pineville was led in scoring by Sawyer Thompson and Ashton Moser. Both players scored 21 points apiece while Sam Caldwell chipped in 12 points, and Wyatt Caldwell added nine points.
“Our kids wanted this win badly for our program, and selfishly, I did too because of all the connections I have with that program,” Levy said. “Our kids fought for each other today and we’re happy to come home with a win.
“We talked to our kids about representing our program and the 13th Region against a very successful 11th Region program like Scott County,” he added. “We felt we were capable of sending a statement that we play high level basketball in the mountains just like the big city and we did that today.”
