LONDON — Early foul trouble played a big role in South Laurel’s 77-62 loss at home to Rockcastle County on Monday.
The Lady Cardinals entered with a two-game win streak, but couldn’t overcome key players getting in foul trouble early in the contest.
“Well not much to say other than we got whipped,” South Laurel coach Chris Souder said. “Got in early foul trouble which really killed us. We are just too young when that happens and expect to survive against good teams.
We just have a long way to go.”
South Laurel (2-2) trailed 21-13 at the end of the first quarter despite Shelbie Mills scoring eight of her team-high 22 points during the period.
Rockcastle County’s lead was cut to 39-32 at halftime after Mills added seven more points while Skeeter Mabe drained two 3-pointers and scored eight of her 12 points during the period.
Maci Messer scored 11 of her 13 points during the second half but the Lady Rockets were able to pull away thanks to Taylor King’s 24-point scoring effort while teammate Talynne Shearer added a game-high 26 points in the win.
