HARLAN — Another game, another win for Whitley County coach Sean Pigman’s Whitley County Lady Colonels.
Pigman’s squad improved to 2-0 after going on the road on Tuesday to defeat Harlan County, 52-42.
The Lady Colonels trailed 24-21 at halftime before outscoring the Lady Black Bears (0-4), 31-18 in the second half.
“Great team win on road in a tough place to play,” Pigman said. “Girls played great, tonight. Autumn Sawyers played one of the best defensive games I have seen in a while. She guarded Ella Karst entire game, and she did a great job on one of best players around.”
Sawyers limited Karst to 18 points, 10 points under her season average.
“Maddy Hopkins and Aubree Clemons, obviously had a good nights offensively as well. Jonna Rice did a super job in talking and helping making good decisions and Amber Brown was really good at the time she needed to be. Proud of the girls and my staff . We were ready and wanted to come away with a win — proud to be a Colonel.”
Hopkins led Whitley County with 27 points while hitting 8-of-17 shot attempts, and 9-of-12 shot attempts from the free-throw line. Aubrey Clemons added 16 points while Jon Rive finished with six points.
