HINDMAN — Corbin’s run to repeat as champions of the WYMT Mountain Classic is off to a good start thanks to an easy, 80-42, win over 14th Region opponent Perry Central.
The Lady Redhounds (2-0) looked in midseason form, placing nine players in the scorebook while three players scored in double figures.
Corbin led 19-11 after a quarter of play and 45-24 at halftime before wrapping up the win in the second half by outscoring the Lady Commodores, 35-18.
“Proud of how we shared the basketball today,” Corbin coach Isaac Wilson said. “I thought the ball wasn’t sticking on offense and we made a lot of right plays on the offensive end. When you do that and play as a team often times good things seem to happen. We need to continue to do that as we move forward this season.
“Our defensive mindset was better tonight than our previous game,” he added. “We were much more connected on the defensive end and our help side was in my better positioning tonight.”
Kallie Housley hit three 3-pointers while finishing with a game-high 22 points. Kylie Clem followed with 21 points while Bailey Stewart added 11 points.
“Overall, it’s a good team win and we want to continue to improve as a team,” Wilson said. “We understand the task at hand and the prestige of the WYMT tournament. We want to represent our teammates, families, and community well and we are excited to come back on Saturday and have a chance to compete for the title once again.”
