Lady Colonels suffer first loss, fall to McCreary Central, 56-53

WILLIAMSBURG — Whitley County suffered its first loss of the season as the trio of Kennedy Creekmore, Sam Privett, and Corinne Trammell combined to score 43 points during the Lady Raiders’ 56-53 win over the Lady Colonels.

Sean Pigman’s squad held a 30-25 lead at halftime, but McCreary Central rallied in the second half, outscoring Whitley County (2-1), 31-23 to improve to 2-2 on the season.

“Tough night,” Pigman said. “Give McCreary credit they made plays and shots at big times and we just didn’t.

“Aubree (Clemens) had a nice game with big double/double,” he added. “Lydia (Hale) came off the bench and really gave us a spark on both ends of the floor. We will watch film tonight and get back at it tomorrow against Clay county.  We just gotta learn how to make the big bucket it get the big stop at crunch time.

“We didn’t do very good job of understanding situations in game when had a seven point lead a couple of times,” Pigman continued. “Left people too open at times and forced some shots on the offensive end as well. That allowed them to get momentum and they ran with it.”

Aubree Clemens led the Lady Colonels with a game-high 25 points while Jonna Rice and Lydia Hale both scored eight points apiece. Maddy Hopkins added seven points while Autumn Sawyers scored three points, and Amber Brown finished with two points.

Creekmore led the Lady Raiders with 19 points. She scored 11 of those in the fourth quarter. Privett added 13 points while Trammell finished with 11 points. Maylee Creekmore followed with seven points while Emma Handsford added six points.
