Thompson, Moser shine during Pineville’s 83-51 win over Rye Cove, Va.

PINEVILLE — The duo of Pineville’s Sawyer Thompson and Ashton Moser were hard to contain during Friday’s 83-51 Mountain Lions win over Rye Cove, Va.

Thompson scored 35 points while Moser added 29 to lead Pineville (4-1) to its fourth win of the season.

“Sawyer Thompson and Ashton Moser played like two of the best players in the 13th Region in many ways tonight,” Pineville coach Brad Levy said. “I’m proud of how they led our team in the intangibles.”

Levy’s squad built a 45-20 lead in the first half, and never looked back.

“I’m extremely proud of our program and our kids tonight,” he said. “We have been battling illness all week and we only had eight kids healthy enough to play. Down three starters, we had to count on our JV kids to step up and they rose to the occasion.

“We are starting to figure things out on the defensive side of the floor,” Levy added. “Rye Cove is a strong, physical team that’s coming off a deep postseason run in football and our guys battled their tails off. We’re going to take a few days to rest and get healthy then get back to work.”
