Williamsburg hangs tough during 69-63 road loss to Somerset Christian

SOMERSET — Williamsburg coach Anthony Hibbard knew his young team would hit some bumps in the road throughout the season, and they’ve done just that so far.

But even in defeat, Williamsburg is showing signs of progress, and an improving team.

Case in point — Friday’s 69-63 loss to Somerset Christian.

The Yellow Jackets (2-2) hung tough, and almost pulled off the win before falling by six points.

“Overall, tonight was a good experience for our kids,” Hibbard said. “It would have been a lot better had we pulled out the win. However, our guys got down early in a hostile environment and fought back to regain the lead. After we settled in, we lead most of the game.

“This is the messy part,” he added. “We are getting better and making progress. However, we have to find our identity on the court. We have to continue to work and get better.”

Andrew Smith led Williamsburg with 22 points while Henry Bowling added 13 points, and Conner Saylor finished with 11 points.
