Bell County’s Daniel Thomas named Kentucky’s Mr. Football

LOG MOUNTAIN — It’s official, Bell County High School’s Daniel Thomas has been named Kentucky’s 2023 Mr. Football, and deservedly so.

After guiding the Bobcats to a 13-2 record, an appearance in the Class 3A state championship game along with a regional title, Thomas can now lay claim to the state’s biggest honor.

“While this award may bear my name, it belongs to each and every member of the team,” Thomas said. “Without their dedication, support, and hard work, none of this would have been possible.”

He turned in a record-breaking season that will be remembered for years to come.

Thomas finished with 3,817 rushing yards, 54 rushing touchdowns, and 373 points — all state records. He carried the ball 400 times, and finished with an average of 9.5 yards per carry.

He also dominated defensively, finishing with 94 tackles (77 solo) while also having a fumble recovery that went for a score.
