Lady Colonels hold off late rally to beat Clay County, 51-33

WILLIAMSBURG — Whitley County did most of its scoring in the paint during Saturday’s 51-33 win over Clay County.
The Lady Colonels (3-1) outscored the Lady Tigers, 42-4, in the paint, as Aubree Clemens led the way with a 20-point, eight-rebound effort. She connected on 10-of-20 shot attempts while Maddy Hopkins finished with a double-double, tallying 16 points, 13 rebounds, six assists, four steals, and one block. Jonna Rice finished with 11 points, seven assists, six rebounds, three steals, and one block.
Whitley County forced Clay County into 21 turnovers while outrebounding the Lady Tigers, 44-29.

“Good win at home today,” Whitley County coach Sean Pigman said. “Proud of the girls for coming back after disappointing effort last night.

Proud of how we shared the ball today. Thought our effort was good for four quarters.”


The Lady Colonels built an 11-8 edge at the end of the first quarter, and led 26-11 at halftime before Clay County began to rally.
The Lady Tigers cut their deficit to 36-26 heading into the fourth quarter, and trailed by nine points with three minutes remaining in regulation before Whitley County pulled away.
Sidney Jones led Clay County with 16 points and three steals while Madison Pendland finished with eight points.
