Three players score 20-plus points during Williamsburg’s 80-67 comeback win over Knoxville Ambassadors

WILLIAMSBURG — Coach Anthony Hibbard was more than pleased with his Williamsburg Yellow Jackets’ effort against visiting Knoxville Ambassadors on Saturday.

Three Yellow Jackets players scored at least 20-plus points, as Williamsburg pulled out an 80-67 victory to improve to 3-2.

Henry Bowling led the Yellow Jackets with 28 points, finishing 15-of-18 from the free-throw line. Cooper Prewitt finished with 22 points while knocking down two 3-pointers while teammate Andrew Smith scored 21 points.

“It’s difficult to play two games in 18 hours,” Hibbard said. “We had a really tough game on the road last night, and turned around and found ourselves behind double-digits today. However, proud of our effort and fight to pull out the win today. We had some guys really step up and drag across the finish line today.

“We had two guys finish with career highs,” he added. “Henry had an incredible game with 28 points. Cooper Prewitt also had a career high with 21 points. Cooper made some big time shots for us. Andrew has been solid all season. He had another double-double tonight with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Conner Saylor, is starting to find his range and has improved tremendously on the defensive side. It’s always good to get a win. We have to keep working and growing together. We are definitely a work in progress.”

Williamsburg trailed 15-12 at the end of the first quarter before Prewitt scored eight points, and Bowling added seven points in the second quarter, as the Yellow Jackets continued to trail, 44-34.

Hibbard’s squad picked things up a notch in the second half, outscoring Knoxville Ambassadors, 23-16, to cut its deficit to 60-57 entering the fourth quarter.

Bowling scored 10 points while Prewitt added nine points behind three made 3-pointers, as the Yellow Jackets used a 23-7 run to secure the win.
