Queens of the Mountains again: Corbin captures WYMT Mountain Classic championship for second straight year with convincing win over North Laurel

HINDMAN — Queens of the mountains once again.  

Isaac Wilson’s Corbin Lady Redhounds captured their second straight WYMT Mountain Classic championship by defeating defending 13th Region champion North Laurel, 65-47.

Corbin (4-0) took control from the beginning, building a 34-13 lead with two minutes remaining in the first half before weathering a comeback attempt from the Lady Jaguars (3-1), who cut their deficit to 10 points in the second half.

Kylie Clem turned in another stellar effort, scoring 26 points while finishing with three 3-pointers. Bailey Stewart came up huge as well, tallying 21 points while finishing 8-of-18 from the floor.

North Laurel had trouble scoring most of the game. Haley Combs led the Lady Jaguars with 15 points while hitting 6-of-13 shot attempts. Chloe McKnight also added 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the floor while Brooke Nichelson connected on 3-of-6 shot attempts, and added 10 points.

The Lady Jaguars struggled from the free-throw line for the second consecutive game, hitting on only 9-of-23 free throw attempts while Corbin finished 13-of-22.

The Lady Redhounds hit 13-of-52 shot attempts, including a 6-of-18 effort from 3-point range. North Laurel finished 18-of-38 from the floor while going 2-for-6 from 3-point range.

Corbin led 21-10 after one quarter of play before taking a 36-17 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Lady Redhounds led 52-36 entering the fourth quarter before wrapping up the win in the fourth quarter.
